ABOUT ME

IMG_3726.JPG

I'm based in Los Angeles and have been backpacking, primarily in the Sierra Nevada and often solo, since 2014. When I first got started, I had trouble finding women-oriented backpacking advice (and I had so many questions!). So now that I've figured out what works for me, I'm posting it here in the hope that it's a useful reference point for other women who are just getting started.

MY BACKPACKING PHILOSOPHY

Every backpacker has their own style. My posts here are informed by mine:

My favorite trip length is 5 to 7 days. And I hate feeling like the last day is a death march to a shower and "real food" -- like I can't wait to get out. So I have a lot of camp chores. I clean myself up every day. I do laundry and wash my hair most days. I cook a real dinner, and even make a hot breakfast. I love feeling downright civilized in the midst of the most stunning wilderness California has to offer, eating a delicious meal, in clean clothes, gazing out at a gorgeous high Sierra lake, on day five of a trip.

A lot of people think that's nowhere near worth the trouble. And that's fine! Everyone has different priorities. I'm just doing what makes me happy, and hoping my blog will help other like-minded hikkers find their happy place as well.
